January 2017: How social enterprises are facing up to challenges in Hong Kong

With increased market competition, sustainability is an issue for social enterprises in Hong Kong. A recent article explores the challenges in Hong Kong.
It was very interesting to read that social enterprise in Hong Kong face the same challenges as social enterprises in the UK.  A recent article in the Hong Kong Press talks about the issues of social enterprises trying to be profit making businesses that retain strong social impact.

Seemingly the number of social enterprises are growing in Hong Kong, there are 574 such businesses in the Social Enterprise Directory 2016, an increase of almost 9 per cent compared with 2014.  The government has put a lot of effort into supporting social enterprises since 2007.

The article has a short film highlighting the challenges facing social enterprises in Hong Kong and in-particular the closure of two well known social enterprises.
