In January 2023, I started my new job as Marketing Lead with Iridescent Ideas as a part of the Time To Shine programme with The Rank Foundation. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far and, as a newcomer to the marketing career path, this role has enabled me to learn and train on the job. In my first week I was lucky enough to take on two courses with Digital Peninsula Network: a short Social Media Marketing course which I have now finished, and a longer Level 3 Digital Marketing apprenticeship which will take up the whole year. These two courses have been extremely beneficial to me and guided me in shaping the rest of the year as a marketer with Iridescent.
The concept of a “social enterprise” was slightly alien to me, although I had previous experience in the non-profit sector, so it still feels like home. It has been so interesting understanding the depth of a social enterprise, and just how prominent it is in the city of Plymouth, where I live. As Iridescent gives business advice to other CICs, social enterprises, charities and start-ups, it has been compelling for me to gain knowledge and peel back to layers of the fundamentals of what is needed for these organisations. I have learned so much through Iridescent’s workshops, and our new online courses created by the lovely Aja (our Film and Digital Developer who was also a Time To Shiner) last year. I feel grateful to have the opportunity for a slight career shift with all the best resources, freedom and guidance to enable me to learn and grow as a professional and an individual. I’m very excited to be working on campaigns and projects and to help to take Iridescent Ideas to a new level with the help of my marketing.
